Benefits of the Freshman Scholarships in STEM (SSTEM) Program ReadMore
In the poster that I will collectively put together over a period of time will demonstrate my experience as a Freshman SSTEM (FSSTEM) scholar. In the Poster I will follow an ordered path that will start with my acceptance into the program and follow through my experiences until I reached the end of my spring semester at the University of Cincinnati. I will reflect on the activities I have participated in being a part of the program. As an FSSTEM scholar, we’ve build beyond knowledge but we’ve learned more about professionalism as an individual. Upon reflecting on my experiences I will describe a multitude of programs that I have been a part of during the process including: Emerging Ethnic Engineers, Research Workshops, Monthly Socials and RECON peer mentoring. I want to reinforce in the poster how each of the programs has helped me grow into a professional and how they will apply to my future. I also have engaged in networking at the meetings, such as communicating with speakers from presentations and mentors from the RECON program. The FSSTEM program has offered me numerous opportunities to strengthen my growth as an individual by keeping me engaged in the community through service and providing workshops to learn more about engineering, professionalism, and research. Lastly, in the poster I will expand on my plans for the future joining the SSTEM program that includes sophomore to senior undergraduates and how I can follow a track to business, education or research for graduate school through the program. As mentioned previously the poster will go in an orderly sequence, so that the audience can see the potential programs offered for undergraduate students.

In the Poster I will follow an ordered path that will start with my acceptance into the program and follow through my experiences until I reached the end of my spring semester at the University of Cincinnati. I will reflect on the activities I have participated in being apart of the program. As an FSSTEM scholar, we’ve build beyond knowledge but we’ve learned more about professionalism as an individual. Upon reflecting on my experiences I will mention a multitude of programs that we’ve been a part of during the process including: Emerging Ethnic Engineers, Research Workshops, Monthly Socials and RECON peer mentoring. I want to re-enforce in the poster how each of the programs has helped me grow into a professional and how they will apply to my future. I also have made networks at the meetings, such as communicating with speakers from presentations and mentors from the RECON program. The FSSTEM program has offered a lot of opportunities to strengthen my growth as an individual by keeping me engaged in the community with service requirements, I attended workshops to learn more about engineering, professionalism, and research. Year in the Freshman S-Stem Program: Growing as an Undergraduate Student ReadMore
I will be participating in the 2016 URSC + PRaISE Conference to present my experience in the Freshman S-STEM Scholars program. In the conference I use a poster to present the valuable lessons I learned through participating in the program. In the Freshman S-STEM Scholars program I attended workshops about undergraduate research skills, presentations, poster making, community service, and other topics. I was also able to network with a variety of people through mentorships with undergraduate students and academic faculty on campus. Through the McNair-RECON Mentoring Program my mentor helped me develop a Curriculum Vitae and gain insight on undergraduate research. On my poster I will explain how the Freshman S-STEM Scholars program helped enhance my freshman experience at The University of Cincinnati. The 2016 URSC + PRaISE Conference will be a great way for me to give an overview of what the Freshman S-STEM Scholars program has to offer and also learn about undergraduate research on campus.
